Team Pick: the award teammates give

Stats show who scores and who gets good ratings. They don’t show who turns up to every training session, who does the work nobody sees or who holds the dressing room together through a bad run. That’s what Team Pick is for: once a month, the players choose the teammate who earned it most.

How it works

Players with an account in the club vote. They can vote for any player in the squad, with or without an account, except themselves. Everyone has one vote, with an optional reason, and can change it while the vote is open.

The vote is about the month that just ended. When it opens, the players get a notification and the Hub shows it to everyone who can vote.

Choose the day, the time and how long it stays open

In Team Pick, in the Manage block, you switch the vote on and choose:

  • The day of the month it opens, from 1 to 28
  • The time, in the club’s time zone
  • How many days it stays open, from 1 to 7

By default, it opens on the 1st at noon and stays open for three days. Anyone who hasn’t voted gets a reminder before it closes. By default, only the club’s owner changes these settings.

Why three votes are needed

Whoever has the most valid votes wins. If there’s a tie, everyone tied wins.

With fewer than three valid votes there’s no winner. An award decided by one or two votes doesn’t say what the squad thinks. In that case, the club’s managers are told, and it’s worth finding out why so few people voted.

A vote kept secret from teammates

Your teammates don’t see who you voted for. The club’s managers see the votes, and the voting screen tells voters so.

Managers can annul a vote that makes no sense. The vote stays on record but doesn’t count, and that player can’t vote again that month.

Announcing the winner

When the vote closes, everyone finds out who won. The winner gets an achievement on their profile, which stays in their career even if they change clubs.

With the VOC bot on the club’s Discord, the opening is posted with a button to vote and the winner is posted with their card. There’s also an image of the winner for the club’s social media.

To make the award mean something

  • Tell the squad what counts: effort, attendance and attitude, not just goals.
  • Pick a day of the month when the squad is usually active.
  • Read the reasons for the votes. They say more than the count.
  • Don’t use Team Pick to punish anyone.
